In an effort to support employees in pursuing a degree in nursing, John Muir Health has partnered with California State East Bay to provide dedicated seats for eligible and approved employees in the nursing program.
To be eligible to apply you must meet the following criteria:
- Part-time benefited service at John Muir Health for at least one year
- Meet expectations or better on all performance appraisals
- You are not involved in disciplinary process
- Receive a recommendation for the program from your department director. Director evaluation form

If you meet the above requirements and are interested in applying for this program, please visit the California State University Nursing Program Web page at http://www.sci.csueastbay.edu
/nursing/ to review the universities eligibility requirements.
Before you apply for this program, you should plan on attending an advising session at California State University East Bay to determine your next steps.
When you apply to the nursing program, you should indicate that you are a John Muir Health employee. Please note that there is a question on the online application that allows you to indicate that you are a current John Muir Health employee. If you apply for the program using a paper application, you must indicate in large print that you are an employee of JMH.
Please be aware that there are a limited number of John Muir Health seats in this program. Not all applicants will be accepted to the program. In order to participate, all applicants must meet John Muir Health’s eligibility requirements and the universities selection criteria.
The university will confirm that you meet JMH eligibility requirements as well as the universities admittance requirements and standards. Only those who meet both sets of criteria will be selected for this program. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces, applicants will be ranked based on how closely they meet both sets of criteria. Those who are not accepted are eligible to reapply during the next enrollment period.
In addition to completing the required paperwork for CSUEB each applicant is responsible for getting an evaluation from their department director. The completed form should be returned to Jan Hunter in Human Resources.
Participants understand that they are required to apply to John Muir Health New Graduate Program, (RN Residency) upon graduation from the California State East Bay Nursing program.
While you are enrolled in the California State East Bay Nursing Program, you are eligible to apply for tuition reimbursement, and the John Muir Health Employee Scholarship Award Program. After graduation employees may apply for the Student Loan Forgiveness Program.
